Farnsworth Canyon - Description
Farnsworth Canyon cuts through
the northern part of the San Rafael Reef. From the Temple Mountain Junction
near Goblin Valley you have to go north for about 1,5mi. It's a real sandy
track like a camel back. A high clearance vehicle will do. It took about 1hr
from Green River to get there. Fortunately we had our GPS with us, so
we were able to find the car park and the canyon entrance. We couldn't
locate the Farnsworth Tanks mentioned by Kelsey. The road until you
reach our parking place (GPS-coordinates below) was okay at that time.
As the coordinates promised it was around 900m from the car to the entrance.
Farnsworth Canyon is a bit like Little Wild Horse Canyon but much
shorter. It's easy walking through the entire canyon. No wet potholes, no major
obstacles, just pure fun and enjoyment. Behind every turn the canyon changed its
face and looked different. If you have only half a day this hike is definitely
for you. When you want to spend more time here and would like to do a loop hike
go up Farnsworth and come down North Temple Wash, which lies to the south. In
case you don't have kids, borrow some or take your grandparents with you.
For us it was the perfect introduction to our '99 Utah vacation.
