• | Hackberry Canyon - Description | |
|
Coming from Page direction Kanab, leave the US 89 between mile markers 17 and 18 to the north into Cottonwood Canyon Road. Follow the sometimes maintained dirt road for about 14.5 miles to the small shaded parking area. Take your kids and enjoy the lower part of Hackberry Canyon.
The more hardcore minded hiker can go for 20.5 miles till for example Round Valley Draw is reached.
Only the adventures minded should use the Cottonwood Canyon Road under wet weather conditions - slippery when wet, impassable when more wet. The Cottonwood Canyon Road is always good for a surprise, some years ago we found an abandoned large trailer (40 feet +) in it, blocking the road. At another time we met a stretch limousine in there as it starts raining. For all this fun, you only need a fine route planning software, which shows you Page, AZ to Bryce Canyon, UT about 45 minutes. As you can guess, we also use this software.
Ask for road conditions at the BLM Paria Ranger Station or at any other BLM office nearby.
